Taryn Barnes RSW, CPT, EMDR Certified Therapist
Course Overview
This 2-day intensive course focuses
specifically on the role of caregivers in child and adolescent therapy, and the
importance of engaging them in the play therapy setting. Caregivers play a
vital role in the success of the child’s therapy and can also pose as a
potential barrier to the child’s healing process.
This course will cover a wide range of
clinical areas in the work with caregivers. It will focus on caregiver
engagement, and how we can move towards parents being allies and treatment
partners in the therapeutic process. It will also cover the assessment and
treatment phases of play-therapy, and how caregivers can continue to support
the therapeutic needs of the child both in the play therapy room, and at home.
Course material and play-therapy interventions will be based on evidence-based
practices and the most up-to date literature on the topic.
